In the Alps, the farmers drive the cows on the alpine meadows in the summer because that’s where the lush grass grows. The animals have large bells that can be heard from very far away. In late summer the cows will return to the valley. Cows are herd animals. Cows eat more than 50 kg of grass and can drink up to 180 litres of water per day. The cows are milked twice every day and can provide up to 30 litres of milk a day. The cow gives milk for her calf to suckle.
