Grace Potter - Trespasser

Grace Potter's seventh studio album, Trespasser, is a spiritually resonant sequel to 2023's Mother Road. This album delves into themes of exploration and stepping beyond accepted narratives, featuring a cast of characters who venture into forbidden spaces with abandon. As an artist known for her continuous transformation and critical acclaim, including sharing stages with rock legends and earning praise from icons, Potter delivers a work that is both unbound and expansive.

Album Significance: Trespasser marks a pivotal moment for Grace Potter, showcasing an artist firmly anchored in her vision. Unlike Mother Road, which was born from a need for solace, Trespasser reveals a confident and focused creative force. The album's journey mirrors Potter's own cross-country travels, from her home in Topanga Canyon to her residence in Vermont, a route she has traversed multiple times.

Production and Sound: Produced by Eric Valentine (known for his work with Queens of the Stone Age, Weezer, and Slash), the album was recorded across various locations, beginning in Topanga with Benmont Tench, continuing in Nashville with session musicians from bands like Cage the Elephant and Kings of Leon, and concluding in Vermont with her longtime live band. This diverse recording process contributes to the album's wayward sound, which fluidly moves between stripped-bare soul, cosmic country, and hellraising rock & roll, all anchored by Potter's powerful vocals and imaginative storytelling.

Artist's Vision: Grace Potter explains the album's title, stating, "We've always been taught that the trespassers are the bad guys, but to me it's not about reckless rebellion. It's about exploring, physically and mentally and emotionally, and being willing to step outside the narratives we've accepted. Because in my experience, the places we're told not to go are exactly the ones that show us who we really are."
