Recorded in Mountain Grove, Ontario, and self-produced with Fez Gielen and Jonas Bonetta, DBFWM showcases Le Ren's musical evolution. Following her world tours supporting artists like Jeff Tweedy and Devendra Banhart, Le Ren returned to Canada to craft an album with a fuller sound than her previous work, 'Leftovers'. This release features fiddles, drums, and layered harmonies, presenting a more expansive, experienced, and earnest collection of songs.

Le Ren's signature angelic vocals are now complemented by a full band, featuring driving lead guitar and rich vocal harmonies. The sound is often compared to a blend of 80s-era Emmylou Harris and the raw intensity of Gillian Welch's 'Time (The Revelator' years. 'Don’t Be Funny Without Me' is described as an aching and intoxicating journey, akin to a post-breakup road trip filled with emotional baggage and moments of quiet reflection.
