Description

This vinyl reissue presents Willis Alan Ramsey’s 1972 self-titled debut, a country-rock and folk album for listeners drawn to singer-songwriter music. It reproduces the original lyric sheet and includes a new interview with Ramsey and liner notes by author Richie Unterberger.

Ramsey recorded the album after joining Shelter Records at age 20, following Leon Russell and J.J. Cale. Its relaxed Texas country-rock, blues-inflected folk and outlaw ballads bring together a wide range of his musical influences, with session players including guitarist Eddie Hinton, pedal steel player Red Rhodes, bassist Leland Sklar and drummer Jim Keltner.

The album’s songs have been covered by artists including Waylon Jennings, Jimmy Buffett and Captain & Tennille. Named songs include “Satin Sheets”, “The Ballad of Spider John” and “Muskrat Love”.
