Kefaya & Elaha Soroor - Our Freedoms Must Be Won

Kefaya and Elaha Soroor present their most ambitious and urgent record to date, "Our Freedoms Must Be Won." This album masterfully blends polyrhythms, immersive synthesizers, and trance-inducing grooves to forge a sound that is both ancient and strikingly contemporary, designed for collective movement and shared experience.

Album Themes: The music confronts critical issues of war, displacement, and mass violence, not as isolated incidents but as deliberate tools of power. Simultaneously, it champions collective resistance, survival, and shared responsibility, asserting that freedom is a tangible goal that must be actively pursued and earned.

Artist Collaboration: Kefaya, comprising Giuliano Modarelli, Al MacSween, and Joost Hendrickx, is renowned for their innovative fusion of global sounds and jazz. They are joined by the celebrated Hazara vocalist Elaha Soroor, a pioneering figure in Afghan music and the first female Hazara singer to perform on Afghan television. Soroor contributes a voice of exceptional emotional depth and power, building upon their previous success with the Songlines Award-winning "Songs of Our Mothers."

Musical Style: This rock album is characterized by its boundary-breaking approach, integrating diverse global influences with jazz sensibilities. The result is a compelling soundscape that resonates with urgency and a deep sense of purpose.
