In 18th Century Spain, a small village is ruled over by an evil Marquis. A beggar seeks shelter at the castle of this cruel ruler, asking only for bread, but is instead humiliated and imprisoned. Forgotten and left to descend into madness, he becomes more beast than man. The only human connection he maintains is with a mute servant girl who brings him food. When she is thrown into his cell and assaulted, she becomes pregnant. After escaping the castle, she finds refuge with the kind-hearted Alfredo Corledo. On Christmas Day, her son Leon is born—but she dies in childbirth. Corledo raises the boy with love and care. Leon appears normal until age six, when he begins disappearing at night and livestock are found savagely attacked. Leon is a werewolf, cursed by his traumatic origins. With love, his condition is kept at bay—until adulthood, when a full moon triggers a terrifying transformation that shocks the town.
